for some unseen reason, the store may need to close. fire, repair, etc. The store was built as a building first. All buildings have locks on doors. If there was a terrorist threat or something they may need to lock up for a while. What if they were remodeling and closed for a week? They may need to lock up. Cute question by the way ... made me chuckle.

Many reasons for a lock. For security reasons you may have to lock the shop after a certain time in the evening. Christmas day shops are closed. Legally you can only open for so many hours on a sunday.
24 Hours is only another way to say they can be available to you when they legally can, and does not mean they will be open 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year, or 366 days in a leap year.

In England 24 hour stores are not actually opened 24 hours.
By law shops are only allowed to stay open for a max of 5-6 hours on a Sunday where they then have to close.
Which is where the locks come in.
But the only reason why it is known as 24 hours store is because it opens to the max limit that is legally possible in a weeks period so technically by law its 24 hours

Good question my friend, it'll be because if the shop owner wants to go fishin' then he has to lock the door. That and if they got burgled or if they had repair work and what not.

They usually close at some point (Christmas). Also it is a good safety precaution should they need to lock up for some unforseen reason (hurricane evacuation).
