I am pretty sure that in the interest in national sovereignty the Canadians would be reluctant to trade in their dollars for our dollars, and we can rest assured that the US will never abandon the independent Treasury that James K. Polk set up way back when for Canada's devalued dollars. A unified currency would be a step in the direction of Americanization of Canada and I just do not think that there is enough of a demand to get decision makers to even give it time to think about.

It is not needed and Canada is just doing fine right now. The euro is a second currency in England and may fall prey to massive devaluations because of the instability of so many countries there.

We could, but we don't want the value of our currency to be based on the economic stature of another country.
In the US, we are more self-reliant than that.

Oh My God! That terrifies me - the Canadian & Mexican currencies are worthless!!! Why would the US make a move to devalue it's dollar and cause huge inflation?

'Cuz it would de-value our currency. Why depend on the rest of the world for our dollar's value?
