I have a lot of green algae (I think it's bubble) in my saltwater aquarium. I also have red hair algae, but it's not as big a problem. The green is overtaking my tank! It's growing over my corals, it's even getting on my anemone! I scrape it off, vacuum it out, change the water, use chemiclean algae killer...IT KEEPS COMING BACK!!! How do I get rid of it? Please help!!

I've done a lot of different things. You can use the algae killer, get algae eaters, clean out the entire tank (you know, empty it and start fresh). There's a lot that you can do. I've never found one way that works every time on every algae. You just have to keep working at it. Good luck.

Is the tank near a window that gets lots of sunlight? Also, what kind of substrate do you have on the bottom? If it's sand, what kind did you use? There's certain types you're not supposed to use because it'll cause an algae outbreak. And, how often do you leave the light on in the tank? Do you have any species that require a lot of light? Might have the light on too long. I'm not real familiar with salt water tanks though, but just some of the things I've read about. Don't just dump chemicals in, it's not treating the problem/source.

Do you have any snails or hermit crabs in your tank? Also sea urchins and I think starfish eat algae. Certain fish will also eat the algae. Yellow tangs in particular eat green algae. Most algae comes from over feeding and too much light. Red algae is from too much phosphorus. Look on ThatFishPlace.com and DrsFosterSmith for remedies on algae control.

I've used barley (like the plant) balls in my freshwater pond for algae, might be worth a try for saltwater.

Get a couple alge eating fish. Take pictures of the alge, take them to the pet store, and ask how best to rid the aquarium of it.

We had fresh water alge from hell, and ended up getting a couple plekos, or whatever theyre called.

There always google.

If your tank is in direct sunlight then move it to somewhere where its not, as algae needs sunlight to grow.

I dunno the size of your tank, but I would just get a Pleco (Either a Common one or a Rubber Nose - this would depend though on the size of your tank. If you tank is 55g or more - get a common plec, but if it's 40g or under - get a couple - maybe 3 - Rubber nose plecs because common plecs can grow to 18").

Good luck!
