as a result we all live in our own illusions...in delusion\delerium ...unable to wake up almost as though we were in a dream....

I think the level of delusion is roughly proportionate to the number of excuses one has made to one's self.
We all have no choice but to live in our own perception. Sharing the view that is uniquely one's own is the very core of artistic expression. Comparing and validating views is at the heart of friendship.
We are too small to know Truth. We can not see the whole map. Yet we all crave to believe we know something of it.
So I would say yes, we are all prisoners of our perception of this finite existence.

To some extent, I imagine there is truth to that. Reality is harsh and ugly. Maybe a little illusion gets us by. Like when I am speeding down the highway in my old car I think of Han Solo from the original Star Wars. Otherwise, I would not be seen dead in that old piece of junk.

The 'fake' side of this human existence can be more bearable if you remember there are other persons sharing your illusions and take them seriously.

This is why Descartes created the premise "I think therefore I am." The only proof of our existence is that we think. And we are self-conscious. That's why we exist. And its not a dream its real.
