What if people actually did what this song was talking about :
There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

The youth of my generation during the 60's are nothing like the kids of today. By 18 we were adults. We had good, solid, non-PC educations. I wouldn't begin to know how one would go about organizing a protest movement involving this generation. How do you explain the issues? You'd have only 30 seconds before they lose interest. Who would care? 40 years ago we read books. Lots of books. Political stuff. Then along comes the government and seizes young men against their will and ships them off to a foreign country to kill people who had in no way harmed us. I refused to participate but that's another story. In Iraq, everyone there has volunteered. And believe it or not, the vast majority of our soldiers there enjoy the experience. Or at least find some satisfaction in what they're doing. In Vietnam, pretty much every soldier there hated what they were doing. In Iraq there is a lot of computerized warfare, plus there is a mix of female and male soldiers. In Vietnam it was rain and mud and heat and bugs and lousy food and a very determined enemy. In Iraq it seems the Muslims are way more interested in killing each other than Americans and we're trying to keep the various factions separated long enough to stabilize the place. I don't think that much answers your question. Just a few random thoughts from my perspective.

I think there will be the typ. songs about it but in the end I think it would result badly. Today's violence among the fellow man and child now is out of control. People (society) aren't given the facts about what was really said in govt, and what is really being done and we tend to make assumptions in favor of the bad b/c the bad things are easier to believe. Back in the day people were not as opinionated I think and drugs were really mainstream.
Today people are more violent, more drastic and often more out of control and in the end I think we would start brewing our own little wars in our communities b/c the neighbor down the street thinks one thing and the one up the street thinks another. Next thing you know there will be anti-war groups fighting with the Peace loving groups and so forth. Soliders wont be as welcomed coming home which makes for the work they did un satisfying. Ultimately leading to more gun violence more discrimination and more kaos.
Im not agreeing nor disagreeing with what is going on over seas with our troops but what I do know is the ultimate terroist weapon is getting society to turnagainst ourselves and battle. How can we support our troops if we cant even get along with each other ya know.... I think the whole protest thing is just a bad idea

People already are, or dont you see it?
Times have changed since the song- the people the song was written for are now in political offices. They are using their memories of events to the best of their abilities, never having learned the lessons they should have learned or understanding the hardships they placed on the military men and women that swore to defend them.
Protesting is already taking place, just not on a scale they want to show in the media yet. I can remember during the Gulf War, there were protesters just outside our base. They thought it was wrong, too...
"There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind"
The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Please remember that protesting in the 60's happened, and surprise, it didn't change a whole lot. Here we are again and it will always be so. It is the way of the human race to fight for position, it happens from countries all the way down to infants in day cares.
Peace is a beautiful dream that can only be realized if everyone wants it. There are some very evil people out there who would take your peaceful means and use them to overtake you. Then you will have to fight to free yourself again. It is a wise person who sees with true eyes the reality of this world in both its good and bad forms. There will always be the ying and the yang, the good and the bad, the opposites. The sooner you make peace with reality the happier you will be no matter what is going on in the world.

Truthfully If the people of today gained a more spirutal and unified protest like there was in the "60's" the government would do as it has, but i do think a solution would be made faster. A faster solution is not always a good answer though. I served 2 years in Iraq so I know what is going on over there.

No, cause that's why the Vietnam war took so long---Stupid people were protesting and causing the country HAVOC. See back in the other wars WW1 & WW2 & Korea everybody stood behind the soldiers and the presidents at the time, helped the war efforts, Celebrities performed for the soldiers, everybody was supportive, plus most men & women were glad to sign up into militery service at that time willingly---------& WE WON those wars and everybody celebrated at the victory's------

earlier I answer, enable me superb you on one ingredient. opposite to lefty idealism, there have been certainly WMD's which suggested lefties very truly desire to overlook that their ilk (the Dems) in government additionally believed existed. no longer suggested because of the dicey difficulty surrounding US/Russia family develop into the shown fact that Iraq shares a protracted border with Syria and had a comfortable relationship going, wherein suggested WMD's does no longer have been complicated to spirit away in basic terms before the ousting of the only guy customary to have used them. Now, i comprehend that contained in the suited little international of liberalism the denizens are allowed to think of in a vacuum at an identical time as observing by using a eating straw, you may ask what the hell does that have been given to do with issues. properly, no longer something formally yet i've got been around long sufficient to correctly known that WMD's do no longer %. and decide the place they're saved. at an identical time as i'm at it, there is yet another ingredient that needs correcting. those farmers who have been killed in Vietnam have been infantrymen. confident they did no longer placed on uniforms and definitely farmed and had families yet they have been very plenty in touch contained in the attempt to shelter their united states. i comprehend that concept is alien to lefties yet carry close with me. you notice, in basic terms because of the fact maps teach a border keeping apart North from South Vietnam, it would not recommend that the human eye can distinguish that are South and that are North. Many an American soldier develop into the two killed or completely disabled because of the fact they weren't waiting to make out the version (or have any reason to) and have been sucker-punched in case you will. seem up references to little Vietnamese little ones informed to run as much as that American soldier with a stay grenade. final, yet no longer least, international background has shown all for the duration of the a while that as quickly as there is conflict there are civilian casualties. it somewhat is why I combat liberalism right here contained in the States because of the fact in case you had your way, the hammer and sickle could be waving contained in the Washington air. i'm sorry your techniques has been poisoned by potential of liberalism.

nothing much, a few arrests ... the only way to make a difference is to protest the whole corrupt system and expose things for what they really are ...example: just protesting the war while saying you support anti-terrorism legislation isnt doing anything but ... supporting the administration and the war ... it plays into their hands. People need to be informed about all the issues and expose the lies of corrupt officials ... thats the only effective way to end the war and imperialistic policies in the middle east..

And then what? While we protest our involvement in the war, what do we do about those individuals who are determined to strike our country? They're probably don't remember this song and will be a bit harder to coax into the drum circle.
