He isn't half the player Arod is, and don't give me that leadership crap, if he was a real leader the team wouldn't have been in shambles in the media all year.

I have no idea why folks are bashing A-Rod. Giambi and Sheffield make better targets to be honest. Niether had a good year. A-Rod did. Both Sheffield and Giambi are steroid users. A-Rod isnt.

Anyway Jeter IS a great player. Hall of fame calibur. Fielding percentage is a lukewarm at best measurement for defensive ability. If you look at total chances Jeter ranks #7 in the AL yet 5 of those ahead of him have 100 or more innings played than Jeter. In assists Jeter is 6th this year. Except for Young Jeter outhits every other shortstop in his defensive calibur. Jeter steals bases, comes up with big games when the Yanks need it. Jeter has a long history of clutch hits in the postseason and during pennent stretches.

I agree with you that Jeter is a poor leader. O'Niell was the Yankee's real leader. Cone was another. Since O'Niell has left the Yankees have not won a WS. There is a reaosn for that. Giambi was supposed to replace O'Niell's leadership but failed. Jeter is too laid back. Doesn't have that motivating attitude.

I disagree with you about Jeter's contributions. Offensively Jeter is a huge contributer. He hits for average, steals bases, scores runs, drives in RBIs and even has a bit of pop to his bat. He is good in the clutch and really good when the clutch means making the postseason or in the postseason. He has a .370 career average in 181 divisional series ABs. 31 - 4 in the SB catagory in the divisional series. 67 runs scored in those 181 ABs. That itself is incredible. If you were to project that to a reguler season total that would be like having close to 180 runs scored in a season. This is in the division series where you face the best pitchers in the game normally. Rarely do you see the #4 starter much less a #5 starter in the division series. Your facing the best 3 pitchers that team has. On top of that Jeter has 9 HRs in the divisional series and 20 RBI.

In the WS Jeter is a .302 hitter in 129 ABs. 4-0 in the SB department. Jeter is a beter Mr Oct than even Reggie was.

Another thing to remember about Jeter's career defensive stats is he's had a series of weak defensive 2nd basemen. Sax and Soriano in particuler. So many assists and DPs were lost due to defensive issues by the 2nd baseman Jeter was teamed with.

So overall Jeter has been a HUGE part of the Yankee's success. Clearly one of the best shortstops in his time. An easy Hall of famer. While his name won't be mentioned with the all time greats. He didn't have the same calibur glove as say Brinkman or the Oz. He didn't have the Iron man streak like Ripkin and never hit quite as well as say Wagner or Mike Young. Jeter though is one of the best overall shortstops in our time.

I am a red sox fan but have respect for Jeter he is a team player and a good post season player AROD has a big mouth thats why they have been in shambles in the media the Yankees will win another world series when they take the time to develop a team instead of going out and buying the best players

It isn't his overall performance, it's his performance when it counts, with the game on the line.

And I HATE the Yankees, so even through that, I can still see Jeter as a great player. As a fielder Jeter has the lowest % of balls fielded by shortstops in the last 10 years, so his range is very suspect, but he makes plays when he has to.

this question would have made experience formerly the All-megastar break, yet using fact the break, his line is .370/.441/.667/a million.108. the only genuine downpoint in his stats is that he's precisely a singles hitter, with purely 12 XBH. A participant does not retire whilst he's clearly on the downslope of his occupation, he retires whilst he can not carry out on the optimum league point... and Jeter's not there yet.

Jeter is great. His numbers are great, his fielding is super great and he hits very well, he steals, he's a leader being captain and he looks are superlative. Now you probably think I'm a chick, NO! I'm a 61 year old woman who loves Jeter. He is modest about himself and his career, he shows respect where he should and he was brought up right. It shows!

Review the highlights of the 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 World Series. (Yeah, they lost the 2001 series, but game winning homeruns usually boost your credibility)
