I know there are a lot of office jobs where you work in a cubical, but what the heck do you do in there? Crunch numbers? Call people? What kind of paperwork?

Office work involving a lot of computer work, pushing papers and crunching numbers like you said. Also, phone calls, etc. You can do any kind of desk job in a cubicle. Like insurance, health insurance, sales, etc.

Cubicles can be used for any number of different things, including:

1. for forumulating a master plan to take over the office and make Wednesday 'Casual Day' instead of Friday...

2. for doing anything but work...

3. For hiding the bag of office supplies that you plan to take home to use in your 'home office'

4. For downloading porn off the internet...

Some sleep......

Seriously though: it depends on the business they are in.

A cubical is to give some privacy to the worker so s/he is free from distractions....although they are generally not sound-proof.

There are better ways to spend a 'work-day' than living in a cubical working for someone.

Keep Smiling!

You listed everything all ready. Cubicals are the middle earth between offices with doors, and desks on the floor.

Depends on your job. I am an engineer working in a cubicle. I do engineering work, mostly with my computer, doing analysis with different software, calls, etc. All a cubilce is, is a cheaper way to have many desks with walls, without needing solid walls.

It depends on the job. Mostly, I think, you try to look like you're working while not getting too depressed at all the gray that surrounds you.
