sounds to me like he needs a little time alone, without the added stress of a relationship...
yes, i think you should wait for him, in the meantime, let him know you are there for him as a friend for any support he may need and let him know you will wait on him.

If you really love him, then support him and wait. Death is hard for a lot of people to get through. Be understanding of what he is dealing with. Tell him that you'll be there for him, day or night, if he needs to talk.

This is extremely confusing because if you "really love him alot and would do anything for him", why are you asking this question? How can you be prepared to do anything for him and then wonder whether you should wait for him? What you have said appears to be contradicted by your question, because if you really mean what you say you wouldn't have to ask. You need to think about this carefully as it appears that you're misleading yourself.

cut him some slack. if his friend passed away he needs time to get things straight in his life. death is very hard to deal with. my mom passed away in 89 and i am still not over it all the way. i would think he would want you to be there for him though...

Because he is vulnerable right now - give him some space but don't cut him out of your life. He needs someone to talk to - just listen don't offer advice. He needs a shoulder right now, so be that for him. If it's meant to be it will work out.
