No lease agreement, just a verbal one. My tenant still owes me for last month's utilities and rent and this month's utilities and rent, now up to $700 and the cable was transfered to this house in his name and it's not working either. He has told me for the last week that he will be giving me money; even interrupting my dinner last night with a call asking if I would take cash since he cannot seem to find any checks. He didn't come home with the money, said he was going out later to get it, I inquired twice more last night and the last time he just went to sleep or at least in his room and didn't respond. He also leaves my house a general mess and I have absolutely no reason to keep him around if he's not paying rent. I plan on calling the Police later to ask them what routes I can take if I do actually plan to remove him, but the thing that worries me is that the family's got a good lawyer friend that I fear will turned on me if I try removing him with no contract.

Also, I wanted to say that I plan on doing things like removing the cable splitters so we don't have internet so he can't play his World of Warcraft game and even possibly removing his door to his room, as I do not believe he deserves any privacy in MY household if he is not doing what is asked of him. I don't plan on doing anything too crazy, I just don't want to do something that will make me look like a horrible individual in court if it gets that far. I carried my f friend along for a year financially after he was discharged from the Army at the last house I rented, so it's not as if i'm not patient and helpful.

If you don't have a signed lease, then you should box up his sh*t, leave it in the driveway, and change the locks. He has no recourse, especially since he isn't actually paying you.

Just tell him it is time to move. He has no signed agreement with you and he has violated your verbal one, so you can let him know he no longer lives at your address. Period.

If you want to be nice, though, give him a couple weeks to move out.

You basically screwed yourself when you got nothing in writing. But...you can evict him with proper notice. Next time get it in writing.
