I am studying abroad in Spain this spring, and if I travel there on my British passport, I don't have to get a visa. Am I allowed to travel out of the country on a non-American passport?

To clarify, here's the situation: I can get into Spain without a visa on my British passport. The question then is am I allowed to come back into the US on my American passport? Would I be prohbited from traveling in and out of the US on my UK passport? If someone could just shed some light on what rules exist involving passports and dual nationality, that would be excellent.

You can travel out of the US with no documentation whatever. Just be sure that your documents will get you back in -- and also get you into Spain.

This can be a touchy subject a this time with all going on. A friend of mine has a duel citizenship American/Russian. Before he could go to and from these two countries with just an I.D. and Birth Certificate. But, these things are becoming more of a hassle. If, you have American I.D. then you may get back in easy, it a hard call to make. I think I would just get me two passports to avoid confusion, which it may just cause confusion. They be tripping on two passports. You may try to go to a local Post Office that do Passports and ask what your best options are. Odds are they will not know, but, may know who you call to find out. Try to do what will make it the easiest to re-enter without a lot of hassle.
