I live in Sweden and I have trouble finding a good brand of ferret food at pet stores here. I've read that most "ferret foods" are not really made/tested for ferrets and they're mostly just expensive cat food with a ferret on the label. Is there a good brand, actually made for and tested on ferrets, not cats, that i can find online in Europe? Shipping is really expensive, not to mention customs fees/taxes, if I order from the USA. Also, can someone give me ideas on what kind of treats I can feed my little stinky (male 5 months old) that are healthy for him?

Hmmm, I hear your ferret loves chocolate! Try feeding it some! kidding... hehe ;)

I did find an interesting site in the Netherlands that sells ferret products:

http://www.fretten.nl

Also, there's an article about treats that you might find useful:

I have ferretty friends who all feed Eukanuba cat food, but any good quality cat food will do, according to the folks I asked.

There's a good chart here, most of these brands are available in Sweden:

Personally, I've had my dogs on Royal Canin's dogfood for years and they are in great condition, so if their other foods are as good, I'd go for that one.. it's a little expensive, but a ferret doesn't eat that much :)

Don't forget to wean over to the new food gently. Add a bit of the new food to the old, gradually switching proportions, until the old food is all gone.

The key ingredients in any food for ferrets are fat and protein, specifically animal protein, since ferrets' short digestive cycles prevent them from getting enough nutrition from vegetable proteins. Chicken, turkey, beef, and lamb are all fine; most ferrets don't like fish, and it may make their litter pan smell worse. The food needs to have 30-35% protein and 15-20% fat, and animal protein should be the first ingredient and at least two or three of the next few.

Unless your ferret is overweight, you should just keep her bowl full and let her eat as much as she wants.

refer to this site for further information on what to feed to your ferret;

your little stinky male would love a fingerful of peanut butter from time to time...

As for food, I don't know what is available over there, but here I buy Marshall's ferret food from the local pet store. When I can't find that, IAMS kitten food works well...but I try to stay away from them because I ABHOR the lab tests being performed by the IAMS corporation.
