They want to perpetuate the myth that union people are "greedy lazy slobs" and that's why they need a union. I'll tell you friend, unless we get this outsourcing thing under control you can kiss middle-class america goodbye.

Historically, without unions we would all be working in sweatshops. Unions are not the reason for our economic woes. Everyone has a right to be represented and earn decent wages with health care.
The problem is the allowance of companies to go overseas to avoid legislation like OSHA, NLRA, FLSA, etc. The solution is to make these laws applicable to all American companies regardless of where the work is performed.
The neo-cons need to understand that the free market is a myth. Conservatives play with it as much as the unions or the liberals. If we truly had a free market where these companies could stand alone without government interference, there wouldn't be so many tax loopholes for them!

The time of the union is D-e-a-d. They were sorely needed and necessary when they came into being and have morphed into the bane of American Industry. They inflated wages to the point that Companies are forced to move overseas to survive. If the minimum wage is $5, then the maximum union wage would be fair at about $9. You have outlived any useful purpose if you are still advocating unions. And outsourced information technology jobs are coming back as fast as they left. Get yourself one of those. Ford is dumping it's union entirely right now.

Do you know why GM and Ford are havings such problems?
Aside from designing horrible cars, they have to spend an extra $3,000 per car on labor over the Japanese. Also, the quality is far lower than the Japanese imports. This leads to a perceived value loss of $5,000 on a new American car. So, a $30,000 Pontiac is viewed to be as valuable as a $25,000 Honda. Free market forces should work to even that disparity out. Until the unions dissolve, however, they cannot. So, the unions are causing the loss of their own jobs.
That's a pretty on-target argument against unions.

I work in a hosopital. We have a union. We are all classified in grades or steps. everyone in that grade receives the same pay. If I see 12 patients in one day and my coworkers sees 6 patients, we are still paid the same. The common reaction to this is, why should I work so hard as I can reduce my case load and still get the same pay.. yeah.. that's it. plus, the union will totally back me up.. some people may call this lazy, i simply call it energy conservation..
and the next time you're at the DMV or the Post Office, take a look at how fast that line is moving...

It's simple. Unions protect the jobs of their members. The wages of union members are set by the union contract and thus have NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PERFORMANCE of the person doing the job.
When a person has no incentive to do a good job, generally, they don't. Thats why you need to employ more people to do the same job if you are hiring union.

"...unless we get this outsourcing thing under control you can kiss middle-class america goodbye."
That's patent nonsense and, as the world continues on its current path, regardless of administration and party, sooner or later, this canard will die a deserved death.
Why not suggest instead that Americans just cannot wait to begin paying 30% - 75% more for:
1 - Clothing
2 - Motor Vehicles
3 - Food
4 - Certain Commodities
5 - Etc?
Now, you know THAT isn't gonna fly, right?

Unions have outlived their usefulness. It is because of unions pushing for (admittedly) fair wages and benefits that companies have looked to other countries for cheaper labor. Global manufacturing has made the union obsolete.

Whether you see unions as greedy lazy slobs or pillars of society is irrelevant. Globalization is what is killing them.
