I plugged in a regular PC game controller into the USB 2.0 port on a Playstation 2. It did not operate, of course. So, now I want to know what the purpose of that port is, and how to use it.

Some controllers use it. I have a PS2 controller that has a fan on it, and it plugs into the regular controller port as well as one of the USBs. That's also where you plug in a keyboard for Online games.

The USB ports on the PS2 are for accessories & peripherals for the system. In order to any peripheral to work, you need the drivers for it stored on the PS2 (either on the hard drive or a memory card).

There's usually an install disc or a bootloader disc for these peripherals in order to work with the PS2.

Well it works only on online games you can you chat with it. Or you can connect the EyeToy camera and take pictures or video chat. You can also use it as a HDD by connecting a USB DRIVE and downloading things like new maps for SOCOM 3.

I believe it is for a keyboard. You can set up your Playstation (much like the XBOX) to play across the internet. I'm pretty sure that some games (that are internet game play) have need for a keyboard.

u can use them for the action replay codes to update it by storing it on the usb & plugging it in.

I was able to charge my ipod in there as well.
