Can you get your hands on a mask or dummy of the Swamp Creature or the Creature form the Black Lagoon and have them either standing in the middle of the pond or climbing out of it? The dry ice idea to create a fog around the pond is a good one and highlight the fog with a spooky purple light....a creature climbing through the purple mist would be unexpected.

If you can get your hands on dry ice, it can give a great affect with the pond. Maybe make a big spider web coming just around the corner of the pond, one they can get "caught" in.

If it is a night look, use battery operated eyes. You can buy them at most party sources real cheap. Put them in the trees and in any opening to a shed or dog house. Hang cans on a string were they will make noise from wind or you can move them. Put hands, feet, arms, legs, heads etc. in and around the yard. You can put leaves around the parts to make them look like they are coming out of the ground. Also painted pieces of card board and a few screws can be used to attach things to a garage or shed to look like they are sticking out. Good luck

Hide in the pond all night.
And when people come around the corner, jump out of the pond and toss wet kittens at them.

sounds like u have it all . i think u better worry more about someone falling in that pond and getting hurt. put a fence around it and be safe. then u can try and find something that will pop up from behind the fence and into there face.

Try making a scarecrow, Tie rope around the neck of a fake dead person to a tree. you can even put a walkie talkie inside it to scare people as they walk by. Put grave stones & webs in the yard. Noveltie stores have all sorts of scarrie things to buy. your on the right track.

there's a store called michael's where they have tons of thigs for hobbies and stuff. last time i checked, they had those blow up snowglobes you can blow up in the fron yard and party city has decorations like plastic or foam tombstones. places that are specifically for recreation, look there and you'll find something. trust me. hey have things like litle trick or treat bags you can design yourself to give out to guess before they all leave. you may have extras, so make sure you know how many people are comming.

Japanese paper lanterns dangling in mid-air, splattered with fake blood.
An inflatable dummy doll dressed up like Sadako dripping wet and looking like she's climbing out of the pond...

I saw a front yard last year with doll heads on sticks. Kind of weird to see. I thought it was an interesting idea.
