45 million without access to affordable health care, the rich are greedy is the answer. Remember they shot their own citizens during the Vietnam war. The richest people in the world can afford affordable health care for everybody.

If the government was to take money from the rich and divide it up so that everyone had the same amount, I am confident that those who were poor before the redistribution would pis s away their new money, and they would be poor again in a year or less.
Many of those who were wealthy before the government screwed them would simply say, "WHAT THE HELL!!. Why should I bust My as s!! The government is going to take it away from me anyway. I might as well stop working"
THE BEST SOLUTION is to get the private sector more involved. After all, Every President in the last 50 -60 years said (more than once) that the American people are the most generous in the history of the planet.
Some leaders must step forward and get others to be mentors, teachers, and friends to the poor and the homeless. The poor, in turn, need to stay in school, work hard, and have TWO strong parents in every family, every home.
The government can throw all the money in the world at the problem but it won't do a dam bit of good. We need qualified , motivated volunteers to get the job done permanently.

A. You're pretty luny
B. Homelessness falls under the personal responsibility catagory of life. A place where the gov't has no right to meddle.
1. If someone wants to throw away their life using drugs or alcohol - not the taxpayers responsibility.
2. People get a free education in this country - it's their choice to make the most of it or blow it off and end up poor & uneducated.
3. If the elderly homeless have families - take a minute to figure out why 'their families' won't take responsibility for them. Because of the utter breakdown of the family unit in this country!
C. The upper 20% of this country is responsible for between 70-80% of the taxes paid annually - how much more can they reasonably be taxed? They worked hard to get where they are and should be able to reap the rewards - not get punished for it.

Well I think the key word up above that you mentioned is "morally poor"! You have the class of rich citizens who can never have enough and always want more more more. And then you have the lower class of those who cannot get health care provided in a benefits package because of the types of jobs available on that end. Therefore, you have a hopeless situation. People are more stressed, tense, depressed, etc. etc. They are suffering from more mental illnesses, falling into addictional behaviors as a means of escape such as drugs and alcohol... and they typically lose all their reasons for living because every day is just more of the same. It's disgusting that this being allowed to happen. There is no middle class anymore. Either you're in the upper crust which consists of greed and the conspiracy to cover your tracks with you you attain more material wealth... or you are low on the totem pole. It's just not the elderly it affects. It's every age brackett... and the focus of a "war" should not be overseas over oil and conspiracies of mistreatment of those citizens that has never been proven... but here at home in all neighborhoods.. a war on healthcare... and war on addictions such as drugs and the morally corrupt... the upper class should have to fund healthcare with higher taxes.. not the cuts we're always hearing about all the time, and it should be made readily available and of equal value for everyone!!

Check your facts. We are not the richest country in the world. As for the poor and homeless, more should be done to take care of them, but only long enough to get them on their feet (if they are able to help themselves). Unfortunately, many of the homeless just take one handout and then wait for the next one without so much as an attempt to do their part to get out of poverty.

You need to get your facts straight! For 1 this country (USA) is only #3 in the world! #1 is Luxembourg and #2 is Norway! The richest country is Luxembourg. UAE is also a rich country, it is the richest in the Middle East. If you knew that then you knew something. USA is a freaky country, they talk about this and that. You say that there is a lack of morality, but says who, you? There are PLENTY of people around that are morally sound and are still caring of others, I am one example. I always buy food for the less fortunate and donate money sometimes too. There have been times in my life as a child when I have been in these types of situations, we wondered where our next meal was coming from and if we were gonna have a roof for the night. We even used to live in our car, in the streets of big cities such as Seattle and Minneapolis, there were 4 of us kids. My childhood was great though, even with these problems, we met lots of people and shared many stories. If you think that it is getting worse now, you are probably right, with jobs being hard to get now and everyone getting booted from their homes, it is tough to know what will or can be done or for that matter, when? It is a tough place to survive, but you live and you learn. As was said before, I would help my family always, with shelter, food, clothing, and money. That goes without say, they help me as well. That is what FAMILY means and I value that more than any money in this earth! Thanks for reading!

Is this thinly veiled criticism of Bush, or government in general?
The truth is that the wealth of the world(US included) is controlled by 1% of the population. That means NOT you and me.
There were just as many homeless BEFORE the war, as there are now.
War is NOT to be blamed for that, GREED is.
What our country needs is a major enema to cleanse it of greedy, selfish political parties and corporations, and re-distribute the wealth a little more evenly.
Oh, and the government is supposed to help its citizens because we pay THEIR salaries with OUR tax money from OUR paychecks and businesses.

Why is it the government's responsibility to care for people? All the government should do is provide the opportunity for its people to succeed for fail---nothing more.
If these elderly and homeless citizens are your family, you should take personal responsibility and help them in any way you can.
Sitting around and waiting for someone (the government, your mom, Santa Claus) to fix the problem is the root of the problem. You can't stand their complaining about not winning the lottery if you can't be bothered to buy a ticket.

The republicans want two classes--the very rich and the very poor. They want to bankrupt our gov't so that it can only perform acts that perpetuate this theory. They want to take away our rights and turn our system into a globalized economy--little by little laws are passed, rights taken away, precedents set--Don't you get the sense that their is a major offensive against U.S. citizens on all fronts. Just take a look at the lack of legislation towards the betterment of the common middle class individual. Why on earth would we need a bill eliminating the ability to file for bankruptcy? Why are a majority of our criminal laws filled with fines, license restrictions, that affect an individual for life rather than penalize him/her with a punishment that fits the crime? These are probably the most provocative times that our citizens have faced since the Civil War and we need to be on toes to defend ourselves on all fronts. Keep yourself informed--stay tuned!!

because only the rich people can afford to run for political office. Greed is a corruptor. Instead of rich people helping poor people with their wealth, most rich people continue to hoard their money and see how much they can get. It's an unfortunate situation because the world could be a far better place. They won't be taking their money to the afterlife either, so beats me why they can't do some good with it now.
