What the hell is up with this "in the grasp" rule? I've never seen this one before last night. Roethlisberger fumbled twice in last nights game (1 questionable, 1 obvious). The whistle never blew on either one, both were recovered by the Chargers, both were given back to Pittsburgh with no challenge allowed. Stupid rule? or fair? Should this be challengable?

As a steeler fan that helped us and I saw the sense behind the rule. It's like if a Running back has 5 guys on him he may not be on the ground but the pay is usually called dead.

So they do the same with the QB I guess. If he is wraped up by three guys then the play is dead once he is wraped up.

I'm sure that if this happened in the Chargers favor and it was critical to where we would have lost I'd be a lil pissed at the rule. But it kind of helped us so I'm nuetral for now. I see why they do it but I don't think they need to.

IMO
1. The ball should be live in all circumstances, until it crosses the line of scrimmage.
2. The ball should be spotted at the QB's location when he throws an incomplete pass.
3. No automatic first downs from penalties (except defensive penalties within 10 yards of their own goal line).
4. It should only be roughing the passer, if leading with the helmet or after the ball has gone.
5. The ball should be live once the receiver touches it, even if they don't catch the pass.
6. Safeties should be allowed to hit any player at any time - even if they are on the side line.

I think they are basically saying, that his foward progrees was stopped. They take special consideration with QB's. Kind of strange, but they have stranger rules.

I agree!!!! I think they need to change this rule back starting next season. If the team is not good enough to protect their QB from other players, then.................THAT'S FOOTBALL!!!!!

If the whistle didn't blow, why isn't it review? Doesn't make sense to me. It isn't a penalty so why not?
