I get distracted easily by so many choices and am not sure what would be best for this area. Im sure, a powerful laptop with good memory, graphics, storage and processor speeds is at the top of the list.

Get a Mac. A Mac Book Pro would be best. mac's arnt the cheapest, but:
15.4-inch widescreen display
1440x900 resolution
2.0GHz Intel Core Duo(1)
512MB (single SODIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
80GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
4x SuperDrive
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 128MB GDDR3 memory
One FireWire 400 and two USB 2.0 ports
is $1,999.00. That's just a "recomemned: option, you can also choose what specs you want: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/6664004/wo/in6H80JfZkHS3XHCw1ikD9YeSf7/4.?p=0
