Well since he sailed to them, I would say he discovered them. If they had sailed to Europe we could say they discovered the Europeans.

Technically, he didn't discover the continents. He landed in what was called, the West Indies, which are part of Dominican Republic of today.

Additionally, when you discover something, it cannotes finding something due to one's action, not inaction. From that perspective, yes, Columbus did discover the New World. However, the natives had discovered it long before Columbus.

I think that the Native Americans discovered
America because, that's where they got their name from. Columbus wasn't the FIRST one to discover America the Natives WERE first

The latest thing I have heard on this is a man from China discovered America before the Vikings or Columbus. I personally thing the people who lived here all along discovered it. Or maybe the ones who walked across the Bering Strait.

NEITHER!!!
Christopher Columbus discovered, Jamaica and the Bajamas.
History books are being re-written to clear up the confusion. It was in fact the Vikings that discovered America, and they had villages already set up in Canada before the 100 years before the mayflower landed in virginia.

In white history he discovered america. In reality, you can't really "discover" someplace if there's already people living there can you. They say Native Americans are descended from the ancient Polynesians, so I would say the ancient Polynesians discovered america.
