Anchorage - largest city, most museums (of Art and History, Aviation, Native Cultural, etc), most people and most commerce in the state. Need to make airflight connections to the rest of the state to the N and W.
Fairbanks - coldest and hottest temps of any Alaskan city, Alaskaland historical park, great aurora viewing.
Kenai/Soldotna - Largest sport-caught salmon in the world (97 pounds) was caught here. Many people come to try their hand at King, Red and Coho salmon fishing.
Denali National Park - Obvious place to go! Tallest mountian in North America. Excellent wildlife viewing for grizzlies, Dall sheep and caribou. Pretty good for moose and wolf.
NcNeil River State OR Brook's Camp in Katmai National Park (one or the other) - superb bear viewing during the summer salmon runs. Almost all photos you've seen of bears fishing in a river were taken at one of these two places.
Seward - oldest railroad town in AK, Sealife Center is an excellent aquarium. Jumping off spot for day tours or longer of Kenai Fjords National Park. Town is in a beauty setting.
Homer - spectacular views in three directions of glaciated mountains and volcanos across the salt water. Easiest place to catch a halibut (which might weigh more than you do). Active artist community, relatively mild climate for south-central Alaska.
Prudhoe Bay - start of the Alaskan Pipeline. Tour the oilfield, stick your toe in the Arctic Ocean.
Valdez - set in a Fjords, it is very mountainous there - sort of like if you flooded Switzerland. terminus of the Alaskan Pipeline. Great heli-skiing.
Off the road system:
Juneau - state capital, other then Hawaii's, the only state capital off the North American road system.
Dutch Harbor - remote Aleutian Island that lands more tonnage of seafood than any other US port. Museum of the Aleutian with native and WWII displays (Japanese bombed Dutch in 1942). Bird watchers go there so see birds not seen on the mainland.
Barrow - northernmost US and North American town. Good aurora viewing. Very interesting in the spring and fall if there is a whale hunt going on. Largely native population.
Nome - end of the Iditarod sled dog race. Site of famous 1925 dyptheria epidemic (reason for the first "serum run" dog sled relay). Old gold dredges, etc. Wyatt Earp was once sheriff.
Peterburg - very Scandanavian feeling to this century-old fishing town.
That's more than 10. You pick.

i've got been to Mexico many cases and in no way had a difficulty. yet, that mentioned, this is going to be extra risky in places like Mexico city. With over 20 million human beings it is the biggest city in international and crime, of course, comes with that. generally, I shop on with the west coast of Mexico and locate it very secure. Acapulco in all possibility has extra crime than others. Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Mazatlan, etc are definitely somewhat secure. I walk around at night, on my own, with extra self belief than i might in any important city in the U.S. do not complication approximately it yet use complication-unfastened experience whilst traveling approximately. do not flash somewhat some money. A money belt or secret pocket is a robust thought. do not carry all you income one place. circulate away maximum of it in the secure practices container at your lodge. carry your spending money on your front pocket. do not placed on flashy costly rings. maximum of all please circulate away your physique of recommendations on the border. Mexicans are the countless nicest and maximum helpful human beings I even have ever met. appreciate their customs and their city. Ask questions. in case you recognize a sprint Spanish, attempt to apply it. they think approximately it a demonstration of appreciate in case you attempt to speak of their language. they're going to snicker at you a sprint, then suitable you, then in all possibility purchase you a drink and supply you helpful suggestion on the subject of their city. you would be large in case you're taking those straightforward precautions.
