What kind of operating system do you use? How good are you with computers? If you are a beginner with Windows, using Windows Movie Maker will be good. It has good features that are easy to use. Just drag and drop. If you are a beginner with a Mac, iMovie is an awesome program. If you are a more advanced user Adobe Premier, or Apple's Final Cut Pro are the most popular softwares for video editing.

PC's with Windows XP operating system has an application already waiting for you - look for Windows Movie Maker. Your camera has to be Firewire or USB capable to get the footage into the hard drive. I have never been "educated" in filmmaking or editing, but I have made over a dozen "short films" of vacations and my sons' baseball and soccer games, and they are the hit of the party! For free software, WMM is easy to use and really really fun.

I have a copy of Showbiz DVD at home which works very well and easily but it is a pay for program. Below is a list of most of the programs on the market and a review of them.

You can use the standard Windows Movie Maker, or you go after market and use the Adobe Premier.
For Macs, use Final Cut
