There is a ban on spead of nuclear weapons, as well as testing. North Korea has been aggressively moving its nuclear program toward producing nuclear weapons, as has Iran. Japan China, And South Korea have been engaged in talks to persuade n. korea to stop weapons development. The US has refused to join talks so N. Korea uses that they need weapons to deter US attack. Not that N Korea would agee to anything, and would proceed with testing anyway, of course we don't know that.

hmm someone said it is a problem because the nation was taken over by communists? well here is some news China was "taken over" by communists and they have nuclear weapons.

Personally I think that North Korea has every right and even a need to develop Nuclear weapons. This whole nuclear weapons sensation didn't even start until George Bush spoke of his Axis of Evil. The Axis of Evil is Iran, Iraq, and Korea. After what has happened in Iraq, when Hussein, although an evil person, was not involved in Terrorism in any way, in fact hated by terrorists, and then now what is happening with Iran and it’s nuclear ambitions (which they have claimed is peaceful), can you blame Korea for wanting nuclear weapons? I know I can’t.

North Korea has been working on developing Nuclear Weapons for a few decades now. If there was ever a time to actually stop them it would have been years and years ago. This did not just start with Kim Jong-Il. And I say that we live in a world today where every small nation that does not fit the status quo is at risk of facing the wrath of bush, who by the way defies international laws as if they do not apply.

Doing nothing about N.Korea having nuclear weapons would be like giving somebody a gun while knowing past actions have indicated it might be used against you? Sanctions are the only response there is besides war. This country wants to simply use the threat of violence to get aid from the free world, instead of using diplomacy. When it comes to nuclear weapons and crazy dictatorships just saying "it is not our business is unacceptable."- It would be a nicer world if such a weapon never existed. Others have it but N.Korean should not..

Not an unfair question. Can any nation or group of nations righteously prevent another nation from having the development they posses? Unfortunately any answer to this has to take into consideration that North Korea has not proven itself to be a stable member of the international community. They have invaded South Korea once and have stated their purpose to reunify all of Korea. There are still regular incursions by North Korean units onto South Korean soil.

That is a good question. Clearly, the United States should have no say in the matter, as the US is the ONLY nation to ever drop atomic weapons on cities. The US needs to get out of the way and let the less agressive nations take the lead in calming things.

A curiously polarised question -- whilst, on account that 1970 there has been a United international locations Non Prolification Treaty signed by making use of a hundred ninety UN contributors which comprise Russia , China , uk , France and the US. in short , only approximately the finished of the UN are adversarial to the proliferation of nuclear weapons -- not purely the US. And the reason must be self obtrusive

They shouldn't, period! I dread the day our country becomes the only one with nukes, and rules the world. Then, WE will know real tyranny, and there will be no one to help any! Pray that God takes a hand in the problems of the world, because if something is not done, I can see misery, poverty, death and disease for most of the worlds population, with, of coarse, the exception of the rich and the politicians. Take a look around, and see which way the world is traveling to. Do you really want a world government, with restrictions on everything we do, including who you can marry, and even to how, and when you can make love to your spouse? I would rather be dead and buried then see a world like that, and be forced to live in it. Now the government has plans to put id chips in every one of its citizens, and other countries are following suit. I for one WILL NOT TAKE THE MARK OF THE BEAST UPON MY BODY!!! God save Us all!!!

Why, indeed? 'Cause:

1 - The Dear Leader is an insane psychopath? Or,

2 - The Japanese aren't going to sit still while the guys they beat up on for so long arm themselves with weapons that only the Japanese themselves have ever suffered the misfortune of having used on them? Or,

3 - The Chinese are obsessed with a "stable" East Asia? Or,

4 - A mini-world war in East Asia is generally considered to be a bad idea? Or,

Well, you get the drift.

You're absolutely right. Everyone should be allowed to have nuclear weapons just because other countries do: Cuba, North Korea, my Aunt Millie, Florida. Because nukes don't kill people, people kill people.

Most of the world doesn't seem to like the idea of Korea having nuclear weapons because they don't have a good sense of exactly how they will be used and contained. It feels kind of like having a drunk neighbor sitting on his porch with a shotgun. He might not actually shoot anything, but it would be a lot better if the police could talk him into putting the gun away.
