A safe average would be $3.00 per ton per day.

There's no way to say. That depends upon the size of the AC unit, and the total heat load. The total heat load will depend upon the volume of the area to be cooled, the total area of all windows exposed to direct sunlight, and the amount of insulation in the property and the temperature differential between outside and inside.

You can get a rough estimate yourself. Turn off your AC. Read the electric meter. Wait for about 2 hours and read it again. Record the amount of electricity used. Turn on the AC. Wait another 2 hours and read the meter again. Record the amount of electricity used. Subtract the first amount from the second amount. That's the amount of electricity you used for the AC. Apply your local electric rate to that to get the cost of the electricity for the AC. Multiply that by 4 to get the approximate cost for 8 hours.

That number will be good for a day where the weather conditions are similar. It will be higher on a hotter or sunnier day and lower on a cooler or cloudier day.

turning the air con on and off will use more power then leaving it on at a higher temp say 55'0-60'0 instead of 50-40 etc
