Every so often I hear the USB disconnect noise followed by the USB REconnection noise as if something has been turned off and on again very quickly. Nothing HAS been turned on and/or off and all my power-save options for my USB hubs are turned off.

How can I stop this? Am I being paranoid to think this may be some kind of security risk?

I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2. Thanks for looking and/or helping.

could be polling
( send a signal to the device to make sure its still working, or to get input, or to keep it awake, or whatever)

It's probably some device that is connected through USB (printer, etc). Try disconnecting something and see if it happens again...once it stops happening, you know what device was causing it.

check your connections first...there may be a loose cable
