Frankly, I don't think the "west" has a corner on being hypocritical!
I don't think anyone should have nuclear weapons (and I'm from the U.S., the country that actually USED them...). However, I can understand why everyone else wants to get their very own bomb.
Scratch almost any politician past a certain level of government and odds are you'll find a hypocrite -- and they all also will give you the argument for armaments (whether they're North Korean, English, American, Chinese...Iranian): they need them because the other guys have them.
It IS insane...and maybe we will all end up like the finale of Dr. Strangelove. What a waste!

Well that's very true, however there have been anti-nuclear treaties agree upon by all nations and that include India and Pakistan when given reactors that they would be used in a certain. Iran and N. Korea are rogue nations known for selling the information too the highest bidder without abiding by the rules and that's why both of them are despised by the world as they seem to have no common decency about humanity. They'll sell it to terrorists or other rogue countries without a moment's thought of what the ramifications and consequences will be. I'm from Canada and we designed the Candu reactors, frankly I wish the world would just not sell anyone any nuclear related anything. But that isn't going to happen because the world has gone mad and stopped thinking of all humanity and just about their own little nation and what they can get out of it.

It is not an issue that we have them and have used them, the issue is we are controlled in our use of nuclear weapons, where as all the evidence suggests that North Korea without Nuclear capabilities is very dangerous - over 1,000,000 active solders in an army that is so strong it would rival the UK and USA forces combined.
North Korea is on the axis of evil, because they have made threats before and have tried to intimidate the whole world, now that they have tested a nuclear weapon means they could easily start world war three and the Nuclear fallout will kill us before Global Warming.

Great question.
I particularly like the way the Americans who have answered this question immediately assume that it is only aimed at them. Hello guys, Britain, France and Germany are included in 'The West' as well.
For 40 years the USA has stuck its nose into almost every conflict in the world, and, for a 'Superpower', let me tell you, you ain't won too many.
So those of you who think the Good Ol' U S of A is the best thing to ever happen, if it wasn't for you, the world would almost certainly be a more peaceful place.
And those Americans who voted for Bush, TWICE, should be taken out and shot. Talk about putting the idiot in charge of the asylum.

Ricky T for PREZ!!!!!
He really has a thorough grasp of world politics, ecomonics and military sabre rattling - North Korea testing a nuclear device moves them into the Middle East.
Come on all you Brits! If we all eat a can of baked beans before bed, and fart in unison at precisely 06h00 GMT tomorrow morning, (aim west) do you think we could move the UK to a slightly warmer climate?
We could be an island off the coast of Africa or something, until the monsoon season and then just eat more beans and move again - the largest cruise ship in the world.
the only country in the history of history ever to have used a nuclear weapon in anger is the USA.

Hey, simpleton, the west no longer tests nuclear weapons. N. Korea also signed a treaty stating that they wouldn't either but you can see where that led. Now the really scary part is that no one will do anything about this. Personally I think we need to give the BOMB to S. Korea and Japan kind of make things a little more stable.

Hey the West isn't about to nuke anybody. Nuclear weapons the West hold are used as detterents against people such as Kim from going after nukes themselves.
Can you honestly see the West dropping nukes anywhere? The next time a nuclear weapon is used in warfare, it will be against the West.

They were not in a freaking war like us. We wouldn't have to have made a nuke If you europeans could have handled you business against the nazis. You, guys, didn't even help us out after the win against hitler. We had to fight the Japs without any european forces. We had a chance of ending the war quicker and saving lives through this weapon and we choose to do it. Once again If france and england didn't let the germans walk all over them, we wouldn't have the nukes. Hitler also was on the pursit to nukes.Thank god we saved your ungrateful arses or you would have been the first subject of a nuke attack.

They are going against a specific UN resolution.
More importantly they are an extremely unstable country militarily with a Dictator who sees himself as a demi-god. Many stable people in this country could be issued with gun licences if they applied but surely you are not defending the right of unstable people to have them.
