What does the United States mean to you? How do you see it?

An outsiders view, I don't know if you'll like it or find it useful for your project, but here goes:

It is a country that once represented freedom, greatness, advancement, a country that had many 'rags to riches stories', the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Slowly as technology advanced, the Soviet Union was finished, Americans stopped really looking outside and were so involved in themselves, that only what they felt was good for their economy mattered and not what was really good overall. So you had them interfering in internal matters of other smaller and weaker nations - Vietnam, Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan... wherever the US intervened, that nation was destroyed, economy in tatters, lives shattered forever and the big US businesses laughed all the way to the bank. Slowly the nation lost it's conscience, and to a great extent the current president who won the first election by cheating and the second one on corpses (war) contributed to image of the megalomaniac that US now seems to portray to a major part of humanity, which is sad, for the US was a great nation, and should be a great leader instead of the bully that many in the world consider it to be. Where, how and why did you loose your way Uncle Sam?

Sad that a nation built on the pillars of freedom, on goodness, now thrives on blood of other humans, on destruction, on hypocrisy, on injustice to fellow humans. And yet, this is one of the few countries that I love and admire apart from my own.(And my country has probably more freedom for every single human, man woman or child than any other country in the world, including the US).

America is a place that I call home. It's a place where I can feel free to do what I want(within the law) such as practice my own religion or not as I see fit. It's a place where I can have my own views and beliefs without having the government tell me what I should be thinking(like N. Korea). All that said, It's also a place where capitalist bastards take advantage of our tax laws, our fund raising laws, and our poor and sick and old. There are a great many wonderfull things about this country, and there are a great many other terrible things about it.

I see the greatest country in the world starting to crumble. Although I know she will become strong again, the growing number of homeless people, crime, and ill lead politicians has put a wall in the greatness we once stood for. As did thousands of Vietnam veterans return to poor medical care and lack of benefits, I hope our brave men and women fighting in a war in distant sands will be taken care of, at least I hope they don't get spit on like my dad when he came home from Vietnam. A country that everyone once looked up to, a country who knew every art of diplomacy has been lead by the most incompetent president ever in our history. As sad as it is, we shall strive to become great again, we shall return to a democratic and loving country, we shall go back to diplomacy first, bombs second because if we don't, the road back to our greatness will become even bigger to overcome.

I see it as my home. A place where I can live and prosper if I work hard. I can practice my religion (for now anyway).

I really don't care how others see us..

It's my home. It's where I live. We have great movies, great art and the 4th of July. I'd never move away.
