I am 16 and I live in Tennessee.

I worked at a Bath & Body Works in New York State and the minimum age was 18. Even though you can legally work at age 16 in NY and most other states, a lot of stores prefer you to be 18 so they won't have to deal with the child labor laws (and so they can hire more experienced workers). For instance, most workers at BBW are required to work a sunday night floor change every so often that can keep you there until midnight. If you were under 18, you wouldn't be able to work that late on a school night. I would just ask the store you are applying at what their minimum age is since it may vary by store.

16 under Federal law. State law or company policy may require a higher minimum age.

In California I think it is 16 with a work permit.
