Wow! Is that Tarkan I can see?!!
These are the most famous of the Turkish football clubs; Galatasary and Fenerbahce, in particular, are extremely well supported all over Turkey, not just around Istanbul. I think you want info regarding their current performance, but all I know is that 2006 hasn't been a good year for Turkish football, so I've decided to share a bit of the history relating to these clubs!

In October 1905, some students of the prestigious Galatasaray College decided to create a football club, from an idea of Ali Sami Yen. The main goal was "To play together like Englishmen, to have a color and a name, to beat the non - Turkish teams" (Ali Sami Yen). The first name of the team was Galatasaray Terbiye-i Bedeniye. The first colours of the football club were red - white, then they were yellow - black and finally yellow – red.

Fenerbahçe was founded nearly a century ago in the province of Kadýköy in Istanbul. The founders were Mr. Nurizade Ziya Songülen, Mr. Ayetullah and Mr. Necip Okaner. This group of individuals founded the club secretly in order to keep a low profile and not get into any trouble with the strict Ottoman rule. So strict in fact that the Sultan, Abdulhamit the 2nd, forbade Turkish youth to set up a club or engage in the game of football played by the English families that they watched with envy. The first emblem of the club was the Lighthouse which is situated on Fenerbahçe cape, whilst the first colours of the club were the colours of the daffodils: white and yellow, scattered around the Fenerbahçe peninsula. The emblem and colours were to be changed in 1910 when the badge was redesigned by Topuz Hikmet and the colours were changed to Yellow and Navy.

Besiktas club was officially registered on January 20, 1910 with the name of Besiktas Ottoman Gymnastics Club, and Sukru Pasha took over the presidency of Besiktas. It was the first officially registered Turkish Club. When Besiktas was founded, the colors of the club were Red and White. After the Balkan Wars of 1912 and 1913, the Ottoman Empire lost most of the Balkan lands and left many dead, including some of the sportsmen of the club. This was a black day for all the nation.
Besiktas decided to change its Red and White colors to Black and White, as Black is the symbol of mourning, until all of the Balkan lands were taken back by the Turks. But the Turks could not recover the Balkan lands and the colors of Besiktas stayed Black and White.

Trabzonspor was founded in two stages. Initially, three amateur clubs: İdmangücü, Karadenizgücü and Martıspor merged on 21st June 1966, with extensive support from İdmangücü, and formed Trabzonspor. The initial kit colours of the club were red-white.
The merger, however, didn't include Trabzon city's most deep-rooted sports club, İdmanocağı who, for various reasons, didn't want to join in. Trabzonspor, therefore, couldn't be completely identified with the city. Having competed in the second division for the first time in the 1966/67 season, Trabzonspor were abolished after İdmanocağı filed a law suit to the Council of State. Finally, following a lot of discussions and disputes Trabzonspor was once again founded on 2nd August 1967, with the addition of İdmanocağı. This time with claret red and blue colours. Along with the three Istanbul clubs above (known as the 'big three'), it is the only club to have won the Turkish title, earning a name as one of the "Big Four". Trabzonspor is as yet the only team from outside Istanbul to win it

Turkish Teams. Huge support for Galatasary and Fenerbahche around Istanbul. Both capable of competing admirably at international level, but may not yet be the favourites for the big prize of whichever tournament they're playing in.
