Bipolar disorder is also knows as manic depressive disorder. These people experience periods of extreme depression, then periods of mania (high energy), and cycle through these periods. Their mood changes up and down, sometimes every few days, or more frequently. Medication will help your spouse with those ups and downs. Paranoia is more characteristic of other mental illnesses. Bipolar people may become abusive during times of mania, because they have high energy and lowered inhibitions and increased impulsivity. Your family is cruel by calling your wife crazy, and bipolar disorder is not in any way linked to homicidal behavior. However, risk of suicide is high during times of depression. With medication, she can stay more leveled out with her moods. Just give her all the support you can, and tell you family what bipolar disorder really is, and that you love your spouse and don't appreciate their negative comments.

Hi there, I've been discomfort from bipolar for many years, probably years, however I handiest received a analysis approximately per week in the past! Nobody else in my household has it, all of them have recurrent despair as an alternative. It's a comfort to get the analysis in some way, due to the fact that I recognize that it is the Bipolar inflicting my temper swings and no longer simply ''me being loopy''. I've been began on a low dose of Zyprexa, I believe my psychiatrist intends so as to add extra healing in a few week's time. I believe on the time he concept I used to be manic, due to the fact that while he requested how I could cost my temper I stated 'low facet of natural' after which his eyebrows raised and he appeared stunned and stated 'you imply you get plenty greater than this?' and I went 'hell yeah!' and laughed, and that is while he placed me at the Zyprexa. I'm a bit of depressed on the minute even though, and I cannot control to make myself depart the condominium, dress or get anything to devour... Anyway, on the second I'm no longer functioning good in any respect, however it is sort of a comfort to grasp there are different bipolar folks available in the market which are coping and dwelling a natural existence. I desire so they can be me quickly too. Maybe as soon as I'm at the correct healing. All the exceptional.

Unfortunately, loving someone with bipolar can be hard. But with proper therapy and medication they can live a relatively normal life. Contrary to popular beliefs, most people dont have more than 3 or 4 mood episodes per YEAR. It is not just typical moodiness that many experience. Plus the mood episodes must last for at least 7 days continuously (depressed or manic) without medical treatment.

I dont know whats up with her family, but yes you should be keenly aware of her behavior. If she starts to act out of character and it seems bad then tell her doctor immediately. Good luck!

To piggyback off the other answerers, manic episodes can lead to abusiveness or paranoia. There is no additional distinction between someone who is bipolar and the fact that they may be abusive or paranoid. The people that I know that are bipolar are shoppers in their mania, they buy anything and everything they can put their hands on and max out their credit cards or they eat everything in sight. Each bipolar person has their own type of manic episode.

Bipolar is a label a mental health worker uses because he/she is ignorant of what actually causes the behavioral symptoms he/she looks up in a book of symptoms. The causal behind depression, or manic-depression, or bipolar is the same thing. A MIND-level fear of experiencing a level of rage or grief that the persons MIND mistakenly believes will destroy him/her. So, the persons MIND shuts the person down when the fear is active, and when it is not active... the cork is out and the person is manic.... until the fear is again stimulated, and the person then shuts down again.

The cure is to facilitate the person in the discovery of the fear repressed within the persons MIND. Those in mental health capable of doing this would be maybe 2% of those registered or licensed to practice various levels of mental health. The reason is that such discovery is not taught in colleges or universities today due to a dominance of behaviorism and fear of the "unknown" within Man.

It is a psychological disorder, or mental illness. Bipolar people are high on life one minute and can drop very suddenly, to the lowest lows, they usually overspend, are irritable, and fly off the handle easily.

It is treatable but once the medication takes effects they erroneously believe that they are cured and start not wanting to continue the treatment which is very dangerous, and often leads to hospitalization, suicide ideations, and loss of friendships and so on. They need to stay on their meds to stop the merry-go-round effect.

Your spouse needs to seek out a good psychologist and therapist. There is no shame in mental illness, and there is a new awareness of how many people there are in the world with this disorder, blame it on polution. Remember you marry for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. God bless you.

Bipolar means to go from one extreme pole to the other, they basically switch from severe depression to manic episodes. If they are treated, their switches become less extreme and their mood is much more calm
