Definitely!
When I eat out I do the following about 40% of the time:
I look over the menu.
Find the most expensive thing.
Make sure I can afford it.
And have the waiter/waitress surprise me.
Generally, they know what's good on the menu better than I would, and they'll bring you something you never even thought of ordering. It's a great way to add variety to your life, and it also takes the stress of finding something good out of the equation. Plus if you get a waiter in a good mood, it'll be a fun conversation.
If they're in a bad mood, you'll probably cheer them up.

Afraid not. I'm more a fan of the familiar. If I go into a restaurant, I usually go to that particular restaurant because I want a particular meal. There's only one restaurant I go to where I will try new menu items, and that's my favorite restaurant, Bugoboo Creek Steakhouse.

Absolutely.
I have tried most things that others would never try or fear. I especially do this when traveling to other regions of the world.
Snake in Texas, Capybarra in Guatemala, Haggis in Scotland.'
Eat as a local-Be a traveler and not a tourist. You have to try everything to experience the culture.

I will try it, but I usually like to spot one of two other diners in the same establishment eating that particular dish to see what it looks like before taking the plunge.

I usually will see if I like the sauce or the spices used in it. I really don't enjoy game that much. but that's the only unusual dish i don't care for but i eat everything else.

I walk around and pick stuff off others plates until I make up my mind which is the best thing for me to order.
