i ahve a contact in my yahoo messenger and today i recived a message from that contact it says DONT CLICK ON THE LINK "the only way to clean some online viruses that may lead you into trouble: http://myglobal-news.com?id=ie protector<<"
in my office computer i clicked the link and my computer was gone dead slow and i was not able to work on it, secondly the home page of internet explorer got changed into the above link, and the change of home page was disabled
i checked wether any unwanted program was running in background , my task manager was also disabled, i am using windows xp sp2

It says not to click the link...why did you? lol. Anyway, you probably got spyware and/or viruses. Scan with the following:

Spyware Tools:
http://www.lavasoft.nu/software/adaware/
http://www.safer-networking.org
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsdefender
http://www.merijn.org/programs.php

Anti-Virus:
http://free.grisoft.com

Cleanup:
http://www.ccleaner.com

I also have the same problem, My Symantec detected it but couldn't stop it. and says as below.

Scan type: Realtime Protection Scan
Event: Virus Found!
Virus name: Downloader
File: C:\Documents and Settings\nbdqa6c\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\IFAOYPIV\language[1].htm
Location: C:\Documents and Settings\nbdqa6c\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\IFAOYPIV

Now my regedit and task manager are disabled.

But I don't have admin privellages to stop the systemrestore... hope it will help you.. let me know if it works.
