It takes 48 hours for anaesthetic to fully leave your bloodstream. You must not drive or do anything which requires judgement, as if you have an accident you are still classed as under the influence of anaesthetic.

Sarah K - you know what they're talking about.
To answer your question - it depends - I have had three lots of surgery now and on each occasion I was pretty ok within 12 hours.
Yet if I have local anaesthetic at the dentist it can take 48-72hours to recover.
Everything depends on your own body's metabolism and healing processes - you can't compare yourself to anyone else - you are unique.

It depends on which anaesthetic you had and how much you were given in relation to things such as your weight and the nature of your op. as well as your general health. Why not ask your doctor when you next go for a check-up???

It varies from person to person. I am allergic to some forms of ANAESTHETIC and it can take me up to 2 days to wake up! Others about 4-18 hrs.
