As you will see from other answers, the costs can vary. If you are wondering if you can afford to go, I can make some suggestions that will lessen the price for you. I have helped teens who thought they couldn't afford it, get to a prom. First, look at consignment shops for nearly new, but slightly used dresses or tuxes. You can purchase them for a very small amount. (You can wear them and then get something back for them by taking them back to them for re-sale later.) Or you could go to Salvation Army or Goodwill stores for the same thing. Next, go to the local grocer and see if they have a floral section. You can often have corsages made much cheaper there than at a florist. Or use the phone and call various florists for estimates in prices. A corsage with carnations is cheaper than one with roses. Or you could have two carnations and a rose with some babies' breath. Find a dress you might already have shoes to go with. For a tux, you need black shoes that tie. The only expense you can't really cut the cost of is the tickets to the prom. But if you have a problem paying for those, I'd ask my guidance counselor if there's a way to pay over time or get a reduction in the cost. (Sometimes miracles happen when someone knows you need help.) Go to the prom.. You can find a way.

This depends largely on where you live. For my senior prom my dress and accessories totaled $250.00, tickets were $85.00 (this included dinner), pictures were $55.00, the limo was $250.00 for 5 hours (the time we spent at prom was deducted from this), and the hotel and goodies were another $200.00, oh yeah my husband's (bf at time) tux was $65.00, so the total for the night was almost $1,000.00. This was an expensive night I had friends that only spent about $300.00, so it all depends.
