I've heard from numerous military folk that there is SO much gay sexual activity going on in the military that officials are finding it hard (excuse the pun) to keep it under wraps. Does being in the military give you a free pass on what gender you can have sex with while you're enlisted?

Gay men, or gay sex has existed for centuries. In times past the Roman, Greek, and other nations would encourage their men to bond sexually. It provide a stronger and loyal bond between the men; to the point of laying down their lives for their friends.
I don't think the American military is turning a blind eye or attempting to keep the sex under wraps. In as much; a high amount of homosexuals are being denied, or dishonorably ejected from the military for the slightest suggestion of homosexuality. This would include not the act but someone merely suggesting. Ironically, it comes at a time, when our military is suffering from people willing to enlist. Lastly, people placed in an environment with death and carnage; unable to determine their plight as if at home; missing love ones at home; can and will provide opportunities to experience sex in what is not considered valid behavior at home. This would include all heterosexuals, bisexuals, gay men, and women.

The problem is not really a problem at all. Though most men will not admit it, all men have homosexual thoughts. It is a scientifically proven fact. I am not just talking out the side of my neck. When you stick ANY man into a room full of men for a LONG time, yes, it will become hard to say no. No rudeness intended, but when you NEED your penis sucked, you really do not care who is doing it. I apologize if any is offended about the comment that I just made.

i dated a hot marine bottom-boy for two years until he was sent to iraq. he's still there. but i know there are a lot of gay men in the military, from experience.

its probably like in prison, you see mostly only your own sex, so you screw them. Then when you get out you say you are not gay. There are as many gay military percentage wise as there are gay civilians. They just dont come out.

men in the military have no choice but to have sex with other men. it is the same in prisons. however, the don't ask don't tell policy is still in effect. soldiers in the military can be dishonorary discharged for commiting "sodomic" acts.
