My 2006 Mazda 3 check engine light is on, but not blinking. The dealership said that it's not serious if the engine is not blinking and that it is ok to drive. Can anyone else out there confirm this is true? Has anyone else had this problem with a Mazda 3? They say it can be a loose gas cap. And that if i drive for 100 miles it should turn off.

Does autozone really give free diagnostics tests? Is there a catch?

Play it safe, go to auto zone and have the codes scanned for free. If they say it is an EVAP code then the dealer is right and the lite will go out due to a loose gas cap. The 100 miles is to reset the OBD2 system
good luck

2006 Mazda 3 Check Engine Light Reset

Take your car to another shop to have it inspected. You should always get a second opinion from someone else especially if you have doubts.

I do not own a Mazda, but in my SUV when the engine light comes on it is letting me know that it is time to change my oil. When was the last time that you had your oil changed or any other maintenance work done? If you had it recently then you can look in your owners manual to tell you how to turn off the signal; it is really easy.

Again, you should still take it somewhere else to make sure.

Here's the correct answer. Auto Zone won't charge you to read the diagnostic codes...they will hook the car up, read the code, and even print out a list of whatever sensor is bad, and how much it will cost to obtain a new one. And, they will of course sell you a new part if you want...but the diagnosis is free. It's probably something simple like an oxygen sensor. Check it out. Hope this helped.

I encountered the same problem and left it alone. One day whilst driving home from work my engine died on me and I couldn't restart it. Towed it back to mazda and they claim that my ECU chip has an error and they couldn't remove that error. They was telling me that maybe when I was installing my In car entertainment system, they could have short circuited the chip while during wiring. My chip has to be replaced! Luckily its still under warranty.

If it's a 2006, it should be under warranty. Don't let the stealership BS you. Take it back, the check engine light should never be on unless there is a problem.
