Unless you have an American keyboard, there's no very easy way.

Hold down the Alt key and while holding it down, type '0162' on the Number Pad (not the top row numbers), release the Alt key.

¢ should be the result.

If you need to use it frequently, there is a neat little utility which is freeware and somewhat more flexible than the Windows built-in character mapper. Called Quick Key, you can have a look at its features and download it from here: http://quickkeydotnet.sourceforge.net/

With that on screen (and normal keyboard characters filtered out) just a mouse-click will send the character to the screen: ¢¥§¼½¾¿, for example.

I too have been disgruntled by the lack of ¢ on the Keyboard. I usually just settle for $.01 or something. But when I really do need the cent symbol I go into Word then click: Insert, Symbol, then select font Trebuchet MS and about 1/4 of the way down the scroll is the ¢.

In Microsoft (Word, etc.) select Insert/Symbol and, depending upon which font you're using, it is about 7 rows down/2nd symbol in.
