I had my physical on wednesday, and it is now the following monday. Is that too far apart to be having a reaction? I ask because I woke up this morning just COVERED with hives, they're horrible, and I've been going through my week mentally to see anything that was out of the ordinary...that's really the only thing I've come up with. I haven't had a reaction to a "booster" type shot before, but my dr did say it was a new "brand" or "type" or something, like a different make... but if it happened wednesday, shouldn't i have reacted by now?

If it isn't the shot, what else could it be?????

Not trying to be mean, but for those who aren't aware, it's THANKSGIVING WEEKEND in Canada, meaning doctors are NOT OPEN. And no, I'm not going to sit in the ER for the next 7 hours because of a skin rash. All I really wanted to know is if too many days have passed for this to be a reaction to the tetanus shot. When the holiday is over, I will certainly call my doctor, I'm not an idiot.

Oh and I don't have a painful ball or anything on my arm where I got the shot. That part is fine. But the rash is all over my upper body, on the insides of my wrists/forearms, and a bit on my legs.

The injection you most likely received was Adacel which is a fairly new tetanus injection. Side effects can present anytime within 7 days of receiving the shot. Hives is listed as one of the more "serious" side effects so I would recommend that you call your doctor, they are always on-call and will call you back. Either that, or call the ER and ask a nurse their opinion or even go to the ER (even though you don't want to) so they can better treat your symptoms. You could take Benadryl as it could help with the itching. If the Adacel is the only thing you received, then this is most probably the culprit of the hives outbreak. If the doctor gave you any other medicine that you took for the first time, that may be it also. Your doctor will be able to tell you also if your condition would be able to be treated without a trip to the ER.

I would take a Benadryl to see if that makes the hives disappear. Yes, it can most definitely be your tetanus shot. I would call your doctor and report this reaction. The last time I got one, I had this huge, painful ball in my arm and I couldn't even lift it for a week.

Take the two Benadryl already! The hives will leave!!! And it is not too late for this to be shot related!

All the medical "authorities" on this site are puzzled. They have no training and are not licensed to give opinions on medical issues. CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!!!! That's what you have him for! What if some amateur here gave you an answer, you did as you were advised, and your condition got worse. CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!!

Chow!!

It could be that you don't have the common sense to call the doctor!
