Curiosity.

How is it? I know that the masons are always men, but who knows? This world is so crazy that even war can be done in the name of God, why a community of freemasons can't accept women? Ain't I right?

Freemasonry can and does accept women as well as men into its ranks. It is not in Eastern Star, although that is a fine organization, I am sure. What you are looking for is called Co-Masonry.

I am a member of American Co-Masonry, an esoteric Order of Freemasonry that admits women and men of all races and religions. (I think most Freemasonry admits men of all races and most religions. Only pockets are still dealing with this.) Of course, you must believe in a Supreme Being and be tolerant of folks of other religions. We started in the 1800s as part of the French Grand Loge Symbolique and came to the United States in the early 1900s. With the only difference that we admit women, we are completely "regular" in all our workings. We aim to help good people make themselves better.

After Initiation, the Entered Apprentice makes her or his way through the Blue Lodge degrees to Fellow Craft and then Master Mason by some memorization and study. This takes about a year. After that there are York Rite side degrees and Scottish Rite degrees. Each come with diligent work. We have Lodges in Canada, the US, Chile, and Brasil.

I have been a Co-Mason for two and a half years now. I could have been a masculine rite Freemason but chose the Co-Masonic route. I wanted balance and the esoteric path this offered. We have masculine rite Brothers who have left their all- male groups and joined Co-Masonry also for the same reason. I drive 800 miles a month to go to the two Blue Lodges I attend. Must be worth it. *smile*

The position of women and Freemasonry is complex and without an easy explanation. Traditionally, only men can be made Freemasons in Regular Freemasonry. Many Grand Lodges do not admit women because they believe it would break the ancient Masonic Landmarks. However, there are many non-mainstream Masonic bodies that do admit both men and women or exclusively women. Furthermore, there are many female orders associated with regular Freemasonry, such as the Order of the Eastern Star, the Order of the Amaranth, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Social Order of Beauceant and the Daughters of the Nile.

If you want to be a part of the Masonic lodge, then join the Eastern Star. But these women that are yelling Discrimination because they want to be a member of an organization that for years and years have been men's organizations are just trying to get attention.Let the men keep their part separate from the women's,especially if there is a part of the same organization that women can join. So,in MY opinion no,you aren't right. And you will note please,I said "IN MY OPINION".God bless

Traditional, regular masonry is men-only. In the last century, French lodges began to accept women. This became known as Co-Masonry. Co-Masonry is not recognized by Free & Accepted Masonry and you cannot move from one organization to the other once you have decided on a particular path. There are Co-Masonic bodies in the United States, check out Neo-Art's post above.

I have heard some are starting to accept women... mainly because their numbers are so low right now. It is true that Freemasonry is for men only, but women also have their own groups that are similar to the Freemasons.

Freemasonry is just a "Men's club". My husband is a Freemason and it's never bothered me that they don't allow women. I viewed it more like Poker Night. He needs his own thing to do, without me, outside of the home. Just as everyone does.

However, there was an article in our local paper talking about its history of the Mason's I did see pictures in the paper with women and children them. I unfortunately cant remember what the article talked about.

The women's division of the Masons is called Eastern Star, with the young girls division being the Rainbow Girls. Check with your local Masons chapter or Eastern Star chapter for more information.
