I have always heard that John Updike first used "idiot box" in his novel, "Rabbit, Run." The timing would be pretty close.

Maybe I will start reading his work now; my sister been pushing him at me for 20 years or so, since we were in college.

i think my step dad did .. he called the tv the idiot box ... he was an a$$hole tho
