Is anyone else embarrassed at the absolutely shockingly poor use of correct English spelling, grammar and punctuation by English people who are on the Yahoo Answers pages?

Yes, I am. There was a question earlier today where someone spelt "Canada" as "Kannada". And no-one seems to know the difference between "there", "their" and "they're" anymore.

The ones that make me laugh are those who ask questions like "why can't I get a job?" all in the most appalling English. As an employer, atrocious spelling and grammar means their CV goes straight from the envelope to the bin - it never gets a chance to touch my desk!

I WAS feeling bad at the use of grammatically bad english online (not just on Yahoo answers). But over a period of time I noted many points to explain why it happens. First of all there are people in every country who can write good English BUT they may not be coming to YA to answer questions and some of those who come, want to answer (that is good) but may lack in proper knowledge of the nuances of English. Second point is that some people do have good English knowledge but not so good computer skills to type or make corrections properly. I always use grammatically appropriate English maintaining good standards. I love English language and use it the way it is best used.

Yes, I'm embarrassed by the incorrect English used on this website. I always try to answer in complete sentences, with proper grammar. I also try to ask questions the same way.

It's got to the point where even if I know the answer and I know that I'd get a best answer if I replied, I just don't answer those questions. There should be a law against poor phrasing and rubbish spelling.

Yeah though I am getting used to it now, but I presume it is from people to whom English is not a first language, otherwise I would be really surprised. Also I reckon that they are in such a rush to answer as many questions as possible they do not check the spelling of their answer.

I think not writing in full gramatical English at certain appropriate times is ok as it saves time. However when you are answering questions on Yahoo it is helpful to make it readable. I agree with what was said earlier though, I make many mistakes by accidental typing errors.

i am - i just choose not to jump on any particular bandwagon about it.....people think that it is cute, or at the very least, acceptable....i would be mortified if i thought that i posted something so grotesque as to show such a lack of intelligence..the occasional typo is okay but the blatent idiocy of the postings that show up here are an absolute embarrassment to our beautiful language

Nope, we English are not allowed to be nationalistic whereas the Scots, Welsh and Irish are positively encouraged to do so. Why should we take pride in our own language when we see it taken over and marmalised by all of the incomers who take our jobs, housing and businesses over and complain about lack of comforts from what used to be their home?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
