because I heard on the news it is unsafe.

and i heard on the news that they put a chip in the system. then they track u down.

Actually, you've probably heard accounts of the Xbox 360 overheating, and in one rare case I heard, it created a fire.

This is fairly rare, so I'd say overall the system is safe. However, be sure to let rest every hour or so, to make sure it doesn't overheat. Buying a separate fan for it might also help.
