Not sure about baseball, but when I play soccer, cleats certainly help with traction.

Yes. Depending on the shape and form of the cleats bottoms determines how much or how little traction the shoes will perfom.

Not so much straight speed, but if you're taking more than one base at a time, they help make your arc smaller. More traction equals keeping up your speed better on the turns without crashing.

yes, definitly. They help you maintain traction in wet grass, and through the sand/dirt of the infield.

not sure...the spikes help dig into the ground and helps u run better as opposed to sneakers.
