The "Docu/drama" called "Death of a president" is the fictional account of the US President being assasinated.

Do Americans find this idea offensive? For example, were US TV to make a drama containing the fictional assasination of Tony Blair I think that this wouldn't go down too well in the UK.

Too right Vicky.
I think psychologically seeing him gunned down may get rid of the urge we all have to pull the trigger.

The Americans have already offended us by changing history in their films. Saying that they captured the Enigma machine was disgusting. Men died for that. Men are still dying in Iraq for Mr Bush and his business interests. So in the grand scheme of things, it won't really matter but will probably be looked upon as a judgement by the media on Mr Bush in a few years. It's interesting that a British company made this programme in partnership with Chicago Borough Films.

An American company.

i'm guessing that about half of the people here in the US would throw a hissy fit. mostly on just the thought of the president being assassinated. the other half might not care, or may think that it could be worth watching, or even might try over-analyzing it like they always do, watching to make sure that nobody tries to assassinate him.

I dont think that Americans would find this offensive knowing that more than half the population doesn't have a positive image about George Bush. I honestly believe that they would welcome the movie and it would sell in the box office.
