Being gay is not the issue. Foley may or may not have written these emails to a minor (it appears as though the "relationship" started when the boy was 16 but the IM's were from when the boy was 18.)
What has gotten Foley into trouble is talking about masturbation with a minor. Gerry Studds was the Democratic Congressman who actually had sex with a minor, but that did not cause the furor the Foley case has.
So the important issue isn't whether you are gay or not, the deciding factor apparently is the party affiliation of the offender.

Nobody has a problem with Foley being gay. The problem is he's a boss who conducts sexual harassment in the office, and, does it to minors, making him a pedophile as well. If the scandal had been him with a grown up lover, it wouldn't be such a big deal.

People feel this way becasue Rebulicans are against gay marriage while Liberals are not. So, why would someone associate with a group that wants to limit their rights as a human being.

If you Republicans hadn't come out strongly against homosexuality and made it a big issue in 2004, the irony of the Foley situation wouldn't be maginified as much.
