I noticed Dan Marino holds all the major QB records. Do you think any current QB is on pace to be able to break any of them?

Manning and Favre will break some:

1. Manning already broke the TD/season record - 49.

2. Favre is 17 TDs away from breaking Marino's career TD record of 420. Manning had 244 his first 8 seasons, so he is well on track to break this record if he plays for 6 more years, till age 37.

3. Manning has 2875 pass completions - on pace to break Marino's record of 4967 in 6 more years.

4. Manning has 34000 yards passing - on pace to break Marino's record of 61361 in seven more years.

5. Marino hold the record for most passing yards in a season at 5084. The closest Manning has come to this is 4557 - so this one could stand.

Summary: If Payton Manning keeps playing for 6-10 more years he will certainly break most of the "important" records. Marino will keep many of the "rookie" records and the "most years leading the league" records.

It will be ironic if Payton Manning breaks all the big records but never wins a Superbowl! What will that say about the most prolific passers in history?

i believe Favre will break the all time record for most TDs passed in a carrer. I think the record by Dan Marino is in the 420's and Favre has over 400. So if he averages 2 TD's a game for the rest of the season, he should be able to break that. Peyton Manning will then break that record in a couple of years. He has the potential to break every record ever set by Dan Marino.

If Manning's numbers stay on pace, he's just about guaranteed to break Marino's records. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see it happen either. Indy has shown their dedication to the passing game by signing Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning to huge contracts at the expense of Edgerrin James. Specifically, Reggie Wayne was the priority this off-season, not James.

Manning is going to end up a lot like Marino in fact. Incredible numbers, no Superbowl.

That depends on how long Brett Favre (Green Bay Packers) plays. Although unlikely, if he plays for 2 more years, purely based on extrapolating his numbers, he may be able to pass Dan Marino.

Another candidate is Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts). Again based on extrapolating his numbers, he could pass Marino in 8 years (both yards and TDs).

Brett Favre is within striking distance of the all-time record in TD passes, if he plays long enough.

Favre will get the TD record by the end of this season, most likely, and then, hopefully for his sake, retire.
