Homophobic fundamentalists often quote two particular verses that seem to be against gay people. These two verses, both of which appear in the book of Leviticus, are . . .
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination." (Leviticus 18:22)
and . . .
"If a man lie with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them." (Leviticus 20:13)
Below is another scripture verse that is in the exact same book (Leviticus) as the above verse.
"For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother. His blood shall be upon him." (Leviticus 20:9)
Imagine what would happen today if we killed every child who was disrespectful to his parents. Fundamentalists explain this verse away, saying that it is part of the Old Levitical Holiness Code and is not meant to be taken literally.
But the above verse is just a mere 3 verses before Leviticus 20:13, one of their favorite anti-gay scriptures which, of course, they do choose to apply literally.
Fundamentalists also use Leviticus 18:22 to refer to gay people as an "abomination."
The Bible also says that eating shrimp and lobster is an abomination:
"But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you." (Leviticus 11:10)
"They (shellfish) shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination." (Leviticus 11:11)
"Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales; that shall be an abomination to you." (Leviticus 11:12)
So why do these fundamentalists have no problem eating at "Red Lobster" ?
It's just incredible, isn't it?

As a fiscal conservative, I am often offended by " relgious right". I think most of them are crooked and hide behind religion. I do not trust any of them nor distrust them. Religion is a tool used by some people and needed by others. I am only pissed we have to be lumped in with these nutjobs who are the biggest hypocrites ive ever met. I know many who do the sunday thing and would stick you in the back to save a buck during the week. Its a good thing they know I am God or we would have some real trouble..

People selectively quote the Bible because it would take to long to quote the whole thing! And most people don't really understand it because they get misinformation from their church and the don't study it on their own in whole before they try to talk about it. Like your questions about red lobster....
When Jesus came he fulfilled the law of Moses so that it didn't have to be done anymore - all of the stoning people for sins, specific laws about cleanliness, foods that were okay to eat or not, circumcision, sacrificing animals, etc. He taught the laws of the gospel which were a higher law and focused more on the principles of the commandments, faith, repentence and forgiveness. (This is an overly simplified explanation)
There are still new testament verses that say that homosexuality is wrong... but I'm not going to selectively quote them for you - read and study the Bible and find them for yourself.

The fundamentalists take up the verses that apply to their principles from the Bible. Bible interpretation is really complex and difficult for ordinary people to understand. Since it was written in Hebrew and Greek, the translation lost its actual meaning!
But when comes to the global fact : Homosexuals , eating anything that has blood on it (be it a shrimp, lobster ,meat ), disrespect to elders, adultery and so on .. are an abomination!
In fact ,these have become culture and fashion in this present days coz when 1 person does it ,its sin.But when a society does it ,its fashion or culture or day-today life activity!

There are two types of ways to read the Bible:
1. Reading the Bible as a whole to interpret individual passages, to get the meaning in light of the rest of the Bible.
2. Reading selective passages you can construe to mean what you want. This is how rapture, purgatory, works righteousness, and a number of other ideas come into being. to a certain extent, this is how homosexuality is treated among evangelicals. However, it is important to understand that throughout scripture, such as in Romans 1, homosexuality is treated as a sin. The point is, there is no true Biblical basis to belive that homosexuality is "worse" than adultery. in any case, the Bible is clear (John 3:16) that all you have to do is believe in Jesus to be forgiven, whether your homosexual, a murder, an adulterure or a right-wing nut-job biggot.

there are hundreds of pages interior the Bible, however the so referred to as Christians never seem to get previous some passages in Leviticus. And of each and every of the prohibitions and exhortations that Moses laid down, the only ones they bear in mind examining are approximately homosexuality. Paul wrote letters like there replaced into no the following day (ok, for him, there wasn't), however the only words that seem to leap out at those human beings could do with homosexuality. i've got suggested formerly that it quite is a modern obsession, and it the two is a planned attempt to get interest off their very own failings or it quite is in basic terms a reaction to the burgeoning of gay rights and freedoms. (God, i admire enormous words!)

I recommend some good teachings from R.B. Thieme Jr. on the subject of Dipensations of the Bible in order to understand the Levitical Laws and to whom they apply.
The punishments are out of date, but the list of sins are still applicable unless otherwise stated by the New Testament writers. Paul discussed the whole meat issue in the letters to the Galations or Corinthians. Which book exactly slips my mind. I don't know any Christians in the modern world who believe gay people should be put to death.

You make a good point in your evaluation that the book of Leviticus (actually, the entire Bible) is conveniently applied. Perhaps because of the wholesale rejection of BIO-logic, in that if gay couples were not allowed to adopt/foster/raise children, then the trait would disappear.
No reproductive capabilities, you see.

What is your definition of a fundamentalist?
Morals values.
Morals values are established by US state law.
Not God's law.
You aren't charge with breaking Bible law in Court when charge with incest or sodomy--its a by a law adopted (enacted-voted)
by man. you, The people-- not God the people.
Whats your worry?
You're a non-believer. So none of this stops you from eating
your hearts desire.
Or sexual relations with your sister or brother or mother or dad?
Homophobic seems better to fit you. your are sttempting to justify
that lifestyle.
You prob condemns vegetarians also.
amish
miniorities.
I guess you are of the great white race?
Bible verses don't get you locked you.
Man's law do.
Knock the government-lobby for change like many of doing now.
you just hack at a Book that has no merit for your logic.
why not live your life and not "knock down" othes?
Are they "pricking" you?
Are you just want to take a "jab" at them.
You fail you know.
you don't disturb God's children-they know apostasy
you attempt to rile and stir up strife among your
own drop outs.
You aren't shaming believers you are shaming God.
We each shall find out the truth at the very moment of death.
