My 26 year old sister had a full head of thick gorgeous hair until she started taking trimspa. Now her hair is thin and still falling out even though she quit taking it. Been to numerous doctors and no one seems to be able to help her. She is so upset she wont leave the house. Thanks for any help/advice!

Have her take 1-2mg of folic acid per day. This is used to prevent hair loss.

A question I would have to ponder about this situation is "Was your sister losing weight rapidly?" If she was the hair loss may not be related to the diet aid at all. It may be related to the rapid weight loss. When we take diet aids that cause us to lose weight rapidly, the body doesn't absorb vitamins and nutrients that it needs. Many diet aids cause malabsorbtion in the small intestines where most of the body's vitamin and mineral absorbtion takes place. Instead of the "good" stuff we need getting into our blood stream it passes right out along with other waste. As a result the body becomes deficent, and things like skin, hair, and fingernails suffer. Hair loss, peeling fingernails, and adult onset acne are problems that people with crash dieting or sudden amounts of weight loss have. You stated that your sister wasn't getting answers from her regular doctor. Request to see a specialist, such as a hemotologist, so that she can have her blood analyzed to check for deficency. Meanwhile a balanced diet, and a multivitamin every day along with regular exercise should get her back on track. Most of the vitamins an average adult needs can be absorbed through one multivitamin, and it's very easy to become toxic if you take too many vitamin supplements, so if she decides to take more than one vitamin supplement, she needs to consult her doc about that too.

Well your sister is obviously trying to lose weight or she wouldn't be on Trimspa. The biggest mistake people make when they are dieting is to completely cut out all oils from their diets. They think that avocados, fish, nuts, etc. are their enemy because they are high fat. They are GOOD high fat and essential to your skin, nails and hair. Be sure she is getting these foods to help her hair situation. You can still lose weight and eat these foods. Just stay away from fried foods or BAD oils.

Be sure she is taking a multi vitamin too. I would suggest she buy an Omega-3 supplement as well.
