SPOILER ALERT!!!! I think the envelope had all Leo's proof for who he was, and his proof against Matt Damon. Plus, I think it told her to give all that information to Mark Wahlberg, as Wahlberg's character was the last to know that Leo had actually been employed with the police (remember, Matt Damon erased him from the computer). I also think the baby was Leo's, and she let Wahlberg into the apartment to kill Damon.

ok, i saw it this weekend. i have a few things to say.
first to everyone, if you didn't know already, the departed was a remake of a Hong Kong film titled "Infernal Affairs." If you weren't satisfied with The departed, check out Infernal affairs, an excellent movie, and honestly i think infernal affairs is better than the departed.
i honestly don't know what the envelope was. it wasn't the "citizen's" envelope because leo left that in matt damon's office. they never really completed that storyline off.
i loved the dialogue. there was a lot of cussing, but it worked. the dialogue was fast, funny, and there were a lot of great one liners.
The storyline was ok, there were really suspenseful moments, and other times you wonder why are they doing this? for instance, was it necessary to have them both love the same psychiatrist, i mean does the boston pd have only 1 psychiatrist? and was anthony anderson's character really necessary?
I thought alec baldwin and mark walhberg did an excellent job. everyone else was pretty good as well. but if you are curious, i recommend checking out infernal affairs, same sort of plot, but the storyline and how they go about it is different (which is why i ultimately like infernal affairs).

it does not matter what was in the envelope the point is that leonard di caprios character knew that matt damon was the snitch when he saw the envelope on matts desk. i would like to know what was in the enveolpe that he gave to the shrink because they never reveal this at the end of the movie.

I loved the movie. I don't know what was in the envelope. Maybe it contained some of the information that Jack Nicholson's character's lawyers provided. Remember he said that Jack Nicholson recorded things and kept information as his "insurance policy."

I thought departed was an entertaining movie, however I don't understand why they wouldn;t suspect leo. that was kind of silly. The envelope contained the names and socials of the workers unless your referring to the one at the end which probably contained evidence of his identity or innocence.

**Warning: my answer contains spoilers**
I really enjoyed the film, but it was pretty violent at times. I though it was a great story. As soon as it was over though, I asked the same question..."What was in that envelope?!". My friends just answered, "It doesn't matter now, everyone's dead, anyway". I guess they have a point.
