Is this a science fair project or something? Of course they effect the growth of a plant. You just have to find out how much before you kill them.

Why would you add salt and sugar to your plants??
Salinity in any soil will affect plant growth. Usually kills them if its high.

Personally, I prefer salt on my veggies and sugar on my fruit....
