All charities should provide you with the tax deduction info and receipt. My husband and I used this place:
http://www.donateacar.com
I hope this helps, or you find somewhere you want to use...take care!

Well---there is a "wheels to work" program in various states---which are administered and implimented by the state or local government--depending (such as counties or cities)...but! There are many cases where governements contract these programs out to various non-profit organizations, such as Catholic Charities, for example.
Although, I wouldn't be discouraged as to whether or not these non-profit religious organizations deal with these programs---if it connected to a government program of any kind, the money or proceeds that these organizations would obtain from these (if any--some just have these programs to keep people employed or to be yet another service that they provide to people who are least advantaged) are only to be used for purposes to facilitate the actual program---and to be kept separate from any religious support. There are federal agencies that audit for this all the time. Religious organizations do good things for people--regardless of their religious affiliations--really.
There are other organizations that take cars and sell them (such as the American Diabetes Foundation---or Lung Association). If this is what you want--go with an organization that you connect with in some way...or sell the car and give an organization your proceeds.

GREAT question. There are two things you should consider. 1) Donate it to Goodwill or 2) find a local community college that offers auto mechanic courses. They would LOVE to have it for hands on experience in their classes.
Both ways gets you a tax receipt!

try a spouse-abuse shelter, or the housing authority in your area. Both places can put anything donated-cars, clothing, furniture- to GREAT use (you might be surprised at just how valuable your old "junk" is to someone in need). Look in the phone book- there should be listings for both in the front info section.
