Often your problem can be due to bent pins on the keyboard or mouse ps2 connectors. If your keyboard or mouse are wireless a low battery can cause an issue. A little more information would not hurt, as usb keyboards have their own set of issues.

It could be that Big Brother simply mistyped his answer and I wouldnt say you were very intelligent yourself considering you didnt have the common sense to provide needed details such as, what make and type of keyboard do you have, I.E. wireless? Wired? If wireless check the batteries! If wired make sure the connector is plugged in and in the proper receptacle! If neither of the above solve your problem, trash the keyboard! The keyboard is detected by the bios and regardless of anything else, if properly connected, it should work!

Check the connection of keyboard to computer and reboot. If you hold down the shift key for a long enough time it has a special feature that locks the keyboard out so be careful with this in the future. The reboot or restart should solve your problem.
